Japanese Pickle and Sake Party

IN THIS EPISODE
It was a beautiful evening for our outdoor Japanese pickle party.

A lot of people brought amazing homemade Japanese pickles. Japanese pickles are made with so many different vegetables, including some basic ones such as cucumbers with shiso (perilla leaves), radishes and cabbage to name only a few.

But there were also Japanese pickles made with non-traditional vegetables such as cauliflower, baby French breakfast radishes, watermelon radishes and chiogga beets. What makes them considered Japanese? The brine. All the vegetables were made with some kind of combination of Rice Vinegar, Mirin, Sake, Soysauce, Sesame Oil and Ginger.

It was a yummy event with an abundance of pickles (including watermelon rind pickles) and sake. Unfortunately, here at The Pickle Club we were much too busy eating instead of taking photos so many of the attendees are not in the video but hope you enjoy just the same!
